With coronavirus (COVID-19) rearing its head in March, the local group probably felt its impact more than most in the sporting world.
But, now, the parent body, Triathlon NSW, has given the go-ahead for club races to start again - subject to a few health regulations.
"Our season usually runs from September to April, depending on pool closures," Speechly said.
"So, it was a bit interrupted last year with a couple of significant events.
"And, obviously, COVID-19 affected us at the end [of the season]."
This is where the job begins immediately for Speechly and his new-look committee - Ian O'Brien (vice-president/secretary), Brian Dollisson (treasurer), Scott Kime (race director) and Lisa Redmond (nutritionist).
It's their goal to re-establish Singleton Tri Club as a force in the sport.
"Yeah, it's my first time [as president]," Speechly said.
"However, we're all keen to try and build up our club.
"We're a family-friendly organisation, which welcomes people of all fitness levels.
"One of our broad aims is to provide an inclusive environment to anyone wanting to participate.
"Singleton is also the longest-running triathlon club in the Hunter, operating for 22 years.
"We have a small membership base but our location attracts many athletes from outside of the area, like Scone, Maitland, Newcastle and Port Stephens.
"Our first club meeting is scheduled for Sunday, September 6, from 7am at Combo Lane (behind Singleton Gym and Swim).
"We host a range of events, from the Splash and Dash (for kids under the age of seven) to the long course sprint, consisting of a 500m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run.
"We're looking to conduct a couple of duathlons before the pool re-opens, too.
"While it's slightly disappointing some of the big events on the Triathlon NSW calendar have been cancelled in 2020 - like Ironman Australia at Port Macquarie, it's not too bad from a club perspective.
"Members, as well as the visitors to town, will be more interested in our races."
