The popular competition joins a long list of rural shows, field days and other functions forced to cancel their annual events as the pandemic continues to impact everyday activities throughout the country.
Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza (UHBB) Committee met on Wednesday July 22 and have made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza.
With the current conditions escalating throughout Victoria and NSW and after many consultations with the Upper Hunter Shire Council, NSW Health and JBS management, it was determined that to progress with even a modified event would be of significant risk.
The UHBB is an annual, beef cattle, youth event held at Scone's White Park planned for 23, 24 and 25 October 2020. The 3 day event draws over 800 students from 60 schools across NSW.
President of the UHBB, Charles Mill said "With the rapidly escalating COVID 19 cases in Victoria and the increased pressure that this has placed on processing plants in NSW, we could not progress with a hoof and hook competition. The health and welfare of our local community, exhibitors, volunteers, and committee of the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza is paramount. It has become too high a risk."
We do have some exciting news though, the Committee will be organising a virtual Junior Judging Competition and an educational program via webinar for students to participate in on Friday 23rd October 2020. With tight restrictions in place for schools as well, teachers and students will now have the opportunity to participate in workshops online. Further details regarding this program will be available in the coming weeks.
The Committee would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all our 2020 sponsors, particularly, Event Partner Waverley Station Angus, who continue to support our fantastic event. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Upper Hunter Shire Council and JBS Scone for their ongoing support and guidance through these difficult circumstances. We look forward to continuing to work with the local community, businesses and exhibitors to make the 2021 Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza bigger and better.
The Committee apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope everyone can understand that the current circumstances are ever evolving. We look forward to interacting with many young cattle exhibitors, students and schools online on Friday 23 October.
