The Singleton soccer club was successful in receiving a $15,000 grant from the Stronger Communities Program, which help secure two sets of new goal posts for the Club.

Member for Hunter, Joel Fitzgibbon, visited the Strikers at Alroy Oval in Singleton Heights to see the goal posts in action, and watched the under 6 and 7s training.

"Sport is everything for our local communities. It is great to see how a grant at the Federal level can make such a positive impact at the local level," Mr Fitzgibbon said.

Mark Henderson, Singleton Strikers Chairman, greeted Mr Fitzgibbon and demonstrated how flexible the goal posts were for the club.

"One set of goal posts are semi-permanent, which means we can utilise them more by moving them around for the younger players," said Mr Henderson. "It also allows us to distance the players for COVID-19 social distancing."

Mr Fitzgibbon reflected on the COVID-19 restrictions and how it had an impact on local sport.

"Weekend sport after a working week is so important for local families. During the COVID-19 restrictions many families were in contact with me wanting to know when their kids can play sport again."

"Now that restrictions are lifted - and hopefully stay that way if safe to do so - it is great that kids have returned to their beloved soccer field with new goals to play with," Mr Fitzgibbon said.
