Organisers had hoped restrictions would have eased and the pandemic would have lessened by it's scheduled date, however the decision has now been made to put it off until Saturday, March 20 2021.

The announcement was made following a risk assessment and a review of current government regulations.

Even when the event is held next year, large changes are expected to be made, the most noticeable of which is that spectators may not be able to attend because of the current 500 person per venue rule for sporting occasions in the state.

They are still hoping to raise between $80,000 to $90,000 for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (WRHS), and Upper Hunter/Central West community liaison officer Danny Eather said he remains hopeful the day will be a huge success, as it has been in the past.

"Hopefully by March we have a few less restrictions but who knows," he said.

"We obviously hope that changes but that depends on the health implications and the fact that authorities need to get a grasp on the virus, so we can really only plan based on what we know."

If it was to go ahead with no crowds, it wouldn't necessarily mean the public would be left out of the loop however, with preliminary plans now underway to explore whether it would be possible to live stream the entire event, and have it set up at local venues such as pubs throughout the day.

The idea, which was raised by the players, will be discussed in further detail closer to the date depending on whether government restrictions change in the meantime.

Mr Eather revealed that while in a way the decision was easy to make due to the circumstances they are currently confronted with, it was still difficult for organisers to put off an event so special to the area.

"It was a tough decision but on the basis of what's in front of us with government restrictions and the risks, we had to make the call," he said.

"It was tough but so far everyone has been very accepting of it."
