Each year the branch holds a major fundraising event know as the 'garden calling'. This year the event was planned to take place in April at the home of Peter and Dianne Crawford on Hermitage Road. Unfortunately due to COVID 19 social gathering restrictions the event was cancelled.
But branch treasurer Susan Ginns put her thinking cap on and came up with a COVID safe way to help raise some of those vital funds.
The idea is based on some of Red Cross's Focus Points for 2020 - forming links with our local Aboriginal community.
This link was achieved with the enthusiastic support and help of the co-ordinator of the Kw-Wal Aboriginal Cultural Centre at Singleton High School, Jo Vinson and of course the Aboriginal students themselves, Mrs Ginns said.
Mrs Ginns used the 10 artworks submitted, to decorate a range of brilliantly coloured greeting cards that also display the Red Cross logo.
The back of the card features a brief biography of the student artist and their inspiration for the design.
Individual cards cost $5.00 (or five for $20) and will be available for purchase at the Red Cross stall at Gowrie Street Mall on Thursday, October 22 and the following Thursday, October 29.
Other Red Cross greeting and Christmas cards - from original watercolour paintings will also be for sale at the stall.
