Launching on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, 'Shadowgram' is a social brainstorming activity that invites people to paste a cut out of their shadow on a wall together with a thought bubble about where they see Singleton in the future.
The result will be one large, public artwork encapsulating a vision for Singleton.
Powered by the University of Newcastle's Future Art, Science and Technology Lab in partnership with Art Thinking and Ars Electronica, Shadowgram is the first in a series of cutting-edge activities to connect and inspire people of all ages in our community.
Council's Director Organisation and Community Capacity Vicki Brereton said the Living Laneways project was the perfect opportunity to experiment with public space and art as well as promote greater engagement within the town centre.
"The Living Laneways Project is the first program in the lead up to the launch of the Arts and Culture Centre in spring this year - we're painting the picture of Singleton and the canvas is our streets and laneways," Ms Brereton said.
"Shadowgram is a fun, participatory activity and a visual representation of how our community sees the Singleton of tomorrow.
"This is just the first of many activations planned for this year in the CBD to generate conversation and contribute to the dialogue of the future of our local government area and celebrate our creative life and identity.
"We'll also be closing Burns Lane to traffic for a period of three months from 12 April, unlocking the public space through temporary street installations, artwork, live music and projections.
"Local artist Sally Hinchliffe will be transforming Evidence Lane with an ocean- inspired mural - the perfect backdrop for our local surf shop - accompanied by a crowd-sourced video project called 'Beehive' in June, and Tre Bella Laneway will become acoustic alley between July and August with a movement-activated sound installation.
"We are really looking forward to our community participating in and being inspired by these cutting-edge activations and getting their input into what they want they future of Singleton to be like - and the sky really is the limit."
