Singleton SES first received a call at 2:11pm on Monday afternoon to attend to a fallen tree on John Street across from Baileys real estate.
A large branch had fallen across and blocked both sides of the road. After the initial phone call, the Singleton SES unit received a total of 37 requests for assistance that evening.
"The majority of the calls were for fallen trees or branches and the others were for damaged rooves or trampolines on rooves," said the Central Hunter SES Commander Simon Merrick.
22 Singleton SES members were deployed and worked until midnight Monday to ensure all job requests were completed. "We also had a few calls early Tuesday that we responded to with one team throughout the day," Simon continued.
"A total of 132 jobs were called for on Monday in the Singleton, Maitland and Cessnock area." We are very grateful for the RFS for their help and support during these events, for our own volunteers and for the volunteers employers who allow for the time off to assist us," Simon added.
With the unpredictable weather forecast for the next seven days, the Singleton SES advise the community to:
- Park your car undercover away from trees
- Do not approach fallen power lines
- Visit BOM website for warnings
