Sydney Roosters five-eighth Hutchison was rushed to hospital with broken ribs and a possible punctured lung after Dylan Brown led with knees in a tackle.

The dangerous incident happened just before halftime and was replayed on the big screen several times, with Roosters skipper James Tedesco pleading with on-field referee Matt Cecchin to ping Brown for foul play.

However, the Eels half remained on the field at Bankwest Stadium, and it took until after halftime for the Bunker to put Brown on report, leaving Robinson with limited time to make his free interchange.

For weeks now, Robinson has been calling for incidents of foul play to be dealt with on the field rather than at the judiciary, but he was once again left scratching his head.

"I had to make a split second change as soon as we ran out on the field. It's ridiculous," he said.

"That's incompetent.

"To not see (the incident), a guy goes to hospital and then 20 minutes later you put him on report? It's ridiculous."

In a game where the Roosters also lost Victor Radley early to a concussion and young half Sam Walker played through an ankle injury, Hutchison's injury was of serious concern for the already under-strength side.

Luke Keary, Boyd Cordner, Sam Verrills, Jake Friend, Brett Morris and Lindsay Collins are already sidelined.

The Eels took their season record to 8-1 but, as well as concerns for Brown, they will be sweating on the NRL charge sheet for Marata Niukore, who had a wild minute with two shoulder charges.

The Eels centre went unpunished for a late shoulder on Walker before collecting Tedesco high with a similar hit a minute later at the end of the first half.

He was placed on report for the shoulder charge on Tedesco but was remarkably allowed to stay on the field despite an edict from the NRL earlier this week encouraging referees to use the sinbin.

That email was sent around to all clubs and officials on Wednesday, saying the NRL had reminded referees and the Bunker to have minimal tolerance for avoidable contact with the head or neck.

Despite the slew of dramas for Trent Robinson's men, the Roosters put up a brave defensive performance against the Eels who had injuries of their own.

NSW Origin forward Nathan Brown was ruled out with a hip injury pre-game, while hooker Reed Mahoney was knocked out in a tackle towards the end of the second half and didn't return to the field.

"He's pretty good now, he's already talking about next week," coach Brad Arthur said of his dummy half.

Roosters winger Matt Ikuvalu landed a hat-trick, and by the time he scored his third the side had had just eight tackles in the opposition 20 metre zone, compared to Parramatta's 51.

Improved Eels second-rower Bryce Cartwright landed a double, while Brown, Tom Opacic and Blake Ferguson also scored tries.
