The Wildcats trail 2-0 in the best-of-five grand final series, meaning they need to win in Melbourne on Friday night to keep their Championship hopes alive.

Gleeson was fuming about the attention Blanchfield copped in game two, with the five-time Championship-winning coach even giving away a technical foul when arguing his point to the referees during the match.

Blanchfield scored just 13 points on 3-of-19 shooting in Sunday's 83-74 loss in Perth. He missed all 10 of his three-point attempts in that match.

It was in stark contrast to Friday's series opener when Blanchfield starred with 27 points, including 5-of-9 from long range.

Blanchfield was fouled nine times in game one, but only five fouls were called in game two.

Gleeson wants the referees to be aware of any dodgy off-the-ball tactics Melbourne might use in game three.

"I thought he was getting held off the ball a lot. It's pretty easy to play defence when you hold someone," Gleeson said.

"It (his performance) depends if the referees are going to call it or not. If they're not going to call fouls off the ball then he's going to struggle.

"That's when we have to go out and set a couple of picks. If we have to give away a couple of offensive fouls so be it."

The banged-up Wildcats flew out of Perth on Wednesday with question marks still hovering over three key players.

Sharpshooter Clint Steindl is unlikely to play on Friday night due to a groin injury, while guards Luke Travers (calf) and Mitch Norton (hip) will need to pass fitness tests.

Three-time MVP Bryce Cotton had already been ruled out of the finals after undergoing emergency surgery on his leg.

Gleeson says he will only play Steindl, Travers and Norton if they're ready.

"Obviously there's a duty of care we have to take for the players to make sure they're not aggravating or making the injury worse," Gleeson said.

"We won't put the health of the player in any jeopardy."
