Due to the ongoing and evolving COVID-19 situation, the Bathurst Street nursing home has struggled to host or facilitate fundraisers.
"We haven't been able to host our big fair, which is held every two years and is always successful," said Cooinda Fundraising Committee President Jodie Mackaway.
"I saw this online sock fundraiser and thought it would be a great way to raise some money in a COVID safe manner," she continued.
Last year the committee hosted a pie drive which was again done in attempts to raise some funds during the COVID period.
"We had our pie drive last year which ran smoothly, and this year we have been doing our doubles for the State of Origin."
In recent years, the nursing home upgraded their front outdoor area, which included a new garden in the roundabout with three wooden picnic tables crafted by the Singleton Men's Shed and a dedicated ANZAC memorial wall built by BHG.
"The residents absolutely love using the benches in the roundabout, it's become a lovely area for them to enjoy the sunshine and have a yarn or read a newspaper," Jodie continued.
Now, the nursing home are working towards building a roof canopy over the top of the benches to allow the residents and staff to utilise the space all year round, rain, hail or shine.
"We would love to be able to get a roof of some kind over the top of the space as when it rains we are unable to use the benches. Especially with COVID and the uncertainty if visitors can come or if residents can leave, they really enjoy using this space when we are locked down."
A range of socks are available with last orders in on September 20.
"There are so many different styles, some silly and some festive, they will be back in time for Christmas so would make a great present," Jodie added.
