During the March storms earlier this year, we arrived to find our fridge at the station had stopped working. One of our members suggested we approach Glencore for assistance, and they were more than willing to assist with funding the purchase a new one.
Our donation started when we reached out to Mt Owen Glendell Operations. Once they heard about our broken fridge, they were only too happy to help us with organising a replacement.
The fridge we needed was a large commercial grade model and Integra Underground generously jumped on board to help fund this donation. The 1500L glass door fridge allows for easy access to supplies during emergencies and allows us the room to store large amounts of water and cool drinks. Cole Air, a local family business, were super helpful.
During the fire season we can be crewing up to three trucks, and crews may be out for shifts of up to 12 hours . With anywhere up to 14 people on a shift, and with campaigns going on for weeks to months, we can go through a lot of drink supplies especially water and electrolyte replacement solution. The fridge allows incoming crew to have cool drinks ready for their shift and extras cooling ready for the next.
Alongside campaign fires, our Village 2 Brigade attends jobs including structure fires, motor vehicle accidents and fires, industrial incidents, storm damage, medical assistance and more, and we are on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are also very involved in community engagement and fundraising, and as a Brigade we train weekly on Thursday evenings. Unfortunately current COVID restrictions have reduced our face-to-face activities to emergency response only, and other activities have gone on-line.
However, Darlington RFB would like to let all of the Singleton Community know we are still here during our current restrictions and will continue to support the Singleton Community and surrounding areas as needed. Darlington Rural Fire Brigade can't thank both Mount Owen Glendell Operations and Integra Underground enough for their ongoing support to the Brigade and the Service.
Mount Owen Glendell Operations along with Integra Underground and Darlington RFB would just like reiterate our continuing support to our family, friends and workmates, and the entire Singleton community through these challenging COVID times, and we are all looking forward to the time we can once again gather together in safety.
Thank you again from the Darlington Rural Fire Brigade.
