Aiming to identifying young achievers, presently aged between 20 and 29, the program recognises those whose past and present contributions to rural and regional communities distinguish them as the outstanding and inspiring leaders of the future.
With a share in the $17,000 worth of prize money, finalists will also receive an all-expenses-paid 8-day intensive internship in the heart of the Sydney Royal Easter Show, working behind the scenes of the largest agricultural event in the southern hemisphere, networking with industry leaders, policy makers and organizations, and gaining leadership skills through a variety of professional development workshops. One finalist will then be chosen as NSW Rural Achiever to compete for the title of National Rural Ambassador. Janie Forrest, Lead Councillor for the Rural Achiever Program, says the program rewards rural advocacy, provides young leaders with a platform for enhanced professional growth, and inspires ambition in others to follow.
"For over 30 years, the RAS Rural Achievers program has selected outstanding advocates for rural Australia, building a legacy of leadership which continues to serve the nation, and launching careers in agriculture, science, politics and logistics," Janie Forrest. "Successive generations of these young leaders drive innovation and excellence beyond the city limits.
