Hunter New England (HNE) Health has announced 41 new cases of COVID-19 in the region, including two cases identified in the Muswellbrook local government area.

A spokesperson for HNE Health confirmed the two cases in Muswellbrook are linked to one reported earlier this week and said there is minimal risk to the wider community as a result.
State member for Upper Hunter Dave Layzell said there would be no changes to COVID restrictions for local government areas in his electorate.
"There is no expectation of wider community transfer of infections as the (two Muswellbrook) cases are limited to their household," Mr Layzell said in a statement on Facebook.
Of the 41 confirmed cases in HNE tannounced today, 26 are from Lake Macquarie, seven are from Newcastle, two are from Cessnock and two are from Maitland.
There was one case reported for both Port Stephens LGA and Mid-Coast Council LGA.
A total of 13 cases were infectious in the community and the isolation status of 12 cases are unknown.
There are now 347 active cases of COVID-19 in the HNE region, 11 of which are currently in hospital.
There were 1,063 locally acquired cases and six deaths reported by NSW Health in the past 24 hours.
