The Hunter Valley Singles’ Over 50s Social Club is looking for new members and are extending an invitation to those in the Singleton region now the new Hunter Expressway is completed.
The only pre-requisite to joining the group is that you must be single.
“The new expressway should make it easier for people outside of Maitland to attend our events,” club secretary, Glenda Jayne said.
“We not only hold events in Maitland, we schedule activities all around the Hunter, from Kurri Kurri to Nelson Bay.”
The activities range from their regular monthly get together on the first Sunday of each month at the Polish Hall in Grant Street, Maitland to a variety of month-to-month events planned by the group’s program coordinator Chris Fletcher, she said.
Each month Chris puts together a varied schedule that has something for everyone and always includes something different, in the past this has ranged from mystery bus tours to whale watching tours and motorbike riding.
Glenda, who joined the club 18 months ago to meet some new female friends, said it has changed her life.
“It is important to have friends and when you are older unfortunately it is harder to make new friends,” she said.
“There are a lot of lonely people out there but this is a great way to get out- and- about and form new friendships.”
The next opportunity to enjoy a social outing with the group will be on Sunday, May 4 , at their regular monthly meeting.
The theme of this meeting will be ‘Soup and Damper Day’ at the Polish Hall at 10.30am.
If you are interested in attending contact Glenda on 4934 3136 or email jayne346@gmail.com
The group are also in the process of planning ‘May Madness’; a night of dinner, dancing and frivolity on May 31.
