After successful seasons in the Medibank Junior Development Series the boys secured two of the eight spots in the representative tournament that determines the best young players in the Northumberland region.
James finished the season that started in February, on a high last weekend with a grand final win at District Park in Newcastle.
The MDJS in Northumberland covers a region from the Central Coast to Coffs Harbour and as far west as Scone and consists of 12 rounds of knockout round tennis.
James and Ethan consistently performed over the 12 rounds earning points from each of their finishes (more points were awarded the further into the tournament they reached).
Their best five rounds were tallied together for their final score.
“It’s rare for a country club to have two players in the Champions of Champions so this really is a great opportunity for James and Ethan,” Hunter Valley Tennis Academy coach Gary Brenton said.
If the boys are successful at the Champions of Champions they will then progress to New South Wales junior tournaments.
Both Ethan and James have an extensive training regime and are at the club Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays and have two private coaching lessons a week.
“We’re starting to do more in depth coaching with these guys and that includes video sessions where we see their swinging action,” Gary said.
“We can play it in slow motion and can even compare them to professional tennis players like Roger Federer by creating a shadow with the two videos.”
