‘A Ball at the Hall for Jacob’ is being held at the Mt Olive Community Centre Inc on Saturday, September 13 and starts 7.30pm.
The ball is always a fun night and the money raised usually goes towards maintaining the hall but this year the committee unanimously decided to help out one of their own.
The Moore family are doing it tough at the moment as Jacob is undergoing his fifth round of chemotherapy to fight a secondary cancer.
He was diagnosed with Bilateral Optic Nerve Glioma, a disease affecting the optic nerves and pathways of the eyes, at six months of age and recently spent is 13th birthday in hospital.
Jacob could have to endure up to 18 months of treatment.
“All the funds raised on the night will go directly to the Moore Family to help with the hidden costs associated with Jacob’s treatment. As always the ball will be a fun night, dancing to some great music, socialising around the fire and catching up with friends,” Mount Olive Community Centre Inc committee member, Lyndal Robinson says.
“They are a very special family in our local community and it is time to give back to this humble and inspirational family.”
Providing Jacob is well enough, his parents Heidi and Nigel will be attending the event, she says.
Lyndal says we want it to be an uplifting night that shows them how much the Mount Olive community cares.
“We have created a Facebook page and will be putting up some of the great prizes we have for the silent auction in coming weeks,” she says.
“Tickets are $35 each and include a light hot supper with tea and coffee. It is BYO alcohol and the dress code is semi-formal.”
Many local businesses have donated prizes despite the tough economic times and anyone wishing to make a cash donation can contact Lyndal on 65 773052 or lrrobinson@bigpond.com
