However, the most important feature of it is it maximises participation for all children, not just the more talented players, which will play a major
role in inspiring the next generation of cricketers and fans.
This summer will see Australia’s favourite sport launch an exciting new era of junior cricket across the region.
Singleton Junior Cricket Association has been proactive and put the interest of the game’s future first by introducing into their entry-level format Cricket Australia’s successful and newest program for kids, MILO T20 Blast.
There will now be a clear pathway for children to transition from school cricket to club cricket as MILO T20 Blast (for 8-12 year olds) bridges the gap between MILO in2CRICKET (for 5-8 year olds) and traditional club cricket (12 years plus).
The program introduces primary aged girls and boys to real games of T20 in a fun, inclusive and action packed environment where kids can develop the skills learnt from MILO in2CRICKET.
Regional development manager Neil McDonald is excited for the future of cricket in Singleton.
“I think it’s clear that cricket is a sport for all and has broken away from the perception of being a long and boring game played only on hot weekends,” he said in town on Wednesday.
“MILO T20 Blast School Gala Days have been a hit with children for several years and it is evident that this fun and exciting format with coloured clothing
and music makes the kids look and feel like they are playing exciting games of T20 cricket, just like their T20 heroes.
“We were lucky to have NSW Blues squad members Sean Abbott and Patrick Pisel in Singleton today.”
McDonald said there were many benefits to MILO T20 Blast.
“Parents love it because it’s much shorter than traditional cricket formats and with sessions lasting 90 minutes, it can be played on any day of the week,” he said.
“All equipment is provided, the kids receive clothing and caps to wear and the program is professionally delivered.
“Cricket NSW is very supporting of the progressive move by the Singleton juniors to establish the MILO T20 Blast program this summer.
“We’re confident the program will increase cricket participation in the area in the years ahead.”
The Singleton T20 Blast competition starts on Friday, October 24.
