In this day and age, that form of assault should be virtually non-existent.
There are many initiatives and campaigns, such as White Ribbon Day, to highlight the issue – and make people more aware.
But, it seems the message isn’t getting through.
Domestic and family violence takes many forms.
It involves violent, abusive or intimidating behaviour carried out by a partner, carer or family member to control, dominate or instil fear.
However, it doesn’t have to be physical abuse.
It can be emotional, psychological, financial, sexual or other types of abuse.
It can also affect anyone in the community, regardless of gender, sexual identity, race, age, culture, ethnicity, religion, disability, economic status or location.
One thing is certain – it should not be tolerated.
