Earlier this month, Singleton hosted the Hunter Valley Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day Service.
More than 35 people from Tamworth, Scone, Maitland, Cessnock and the local area attended the moving function, which was followed by an afternoon tea.
“It was a really special day for families in the region where we could come together to reflect, remember, share and celebrate the brief lives of our precious babies,” Bears of Hope co-founder and vice-president Toni Tattis said.
“October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month.
“In particular, October 15 is a day dedicated to remembering all the babies who have died too early.
“It has always been a significant date in the lives of many bereaved parents and families across the globe.
“But, it was only in 2011 that the Minister for Health Jillian Skinner declared the state would recognise October 15 as the official day of remembrance for pregnancy and infant loss.
“Hopefully, other states around Australia will continue to follow the example set by NSW so that it becomes official on a national scale.”
Ms Tattis said it took a lot of strength to attend such an event.
“I thank all who participated for being so brave,” she said.
“But, it gives everyone an opportunity to meet some new people, talk to another bereaved family and make some connections as we share, remember and acknowledge our beautiful babies and children together.
“We also conducted the Wave Of Light.
“That’s when individuals or families light a candle and leave it burning for an hour.
“There was a chance for people to contribute to the Remembrance Book too – whether they wrote a poem or message, drew a picture or shared a memory to their child.
“I’d just like to thank sponsors Glencore Liddell for their donation, Shelly B Photography and also the Uniting Church for donating the hall for our usage.
“My gratitude also goes to Waz, Nat, Ally, Katrina, Kelly and Rosalind for helping me with the preparations.”
