As a result of fundraising activities by the Singleton Hospital Auxiliary, a total of $61,000 was handed over in the past 12 months to purchase items for the benefit of hospital staff and patients.
“Twenty-eight television sets were installed while we also bought a steriliser for Endoscopy equipment and two recliner chairs,” the group’s publicity officer, Ron Stokes, said.
“We acquired an outdoor table setting with bench seats.
“That has recently been mounted on a concrete base in attractive surroundings opposite the old Dangar Wing.
“It’s already proven popular with those who have loved ones in hospital and have some spare time.”
Mr Stokes said the auxiliary had recently been the recipient of an $8000 donation from the Singleton Op Shop.
“Two representatives from the group, May Andrews and Maureen Butler, were guests at our last meeting and were able to experience, first-hand, the results of the Op Shop’s generosity,” he said.
The auxiliary also hosted its annual general meeting.
Elected office bearers for the coming year are: president Vera Smith, vice-president Sue Langdon, secretary Barbara Flanagan, assistant secretary Judy Spillard, treasurer Val Smith, assistant treasurer Marie Pease and publicity officer Ron Stokes.
Two new members, Wilma Cox and Beth McCreadie, were presented with their membership badges by president Vera Smith.
Early arrangements are in place for a Hospital Autumn Fair to be held in the new year.
