At Wednesday evening’s 1000ks4Kids fundraiser, at Majestic Cinemas, she came face-to-face with one of the characters featured in the new Australian film, Paper Planes. 

James Norton, now 29, and his mate Dylan Parker met at a paper plane competition in 2008.

It was the start of a journey that actually inspired director Robert Connolly’s latest offering.

Ironically, Mrs Dunn chose that movie – to raise funds for Camp Quality – for personal reasons.

Her son Harry, who was killed in a school bus crash in September 2012, loved to make paper planes.

And, it’s in his memory that she is now undertaking the bike ride, which starts on the Gold Coast on September 4 and ends in Newcastle 10 days later.

The event also passes through Singleton.

“I’m overwhelmed by the occasion,” Mrs Dunn said.

“We sold more than 150 tickets and had to move it into the big cinema.

“I’m actually stoked by the response.

“Harry would have loved this film – and it was important to get his friends here.

“The movie has really resonated with our family.

“And, to meet James here; well, that’s really spun me out.”

The appearance of Mr Norton, a landscape architect, was an added bonus, according to Mrs Dunn, who also thanked Majestic Cinemas Singleton for organising the event within 24 hours.

But, it’s by sheer coincidence that he turned up at all.

“I was on my way to Forster,” he told The Argus.

“However, I saw an article on a local website and found Sarah’s story very touching.

“I then contacted the cinemas here in Singleton – and the rest is history.

“I’ve really enjoyed making paper planes with the kids.

"It brought back a lot of good memories.

"Over the past couple of years Dylan and I have been 'paper plane consultants' for Paper Planes, which is based on our story.

“Our girlfriends used to look at us wondering what we were on about, but every time we throw it's just a good excuse to be kids again.”
