“I’m absolutely passionate about education and enjoy working in big comprehensive schools and want the staff, students and the wider community to have high expectations of what we can achieve,” she told The Argus.
This is her first appointment after previously being principal at White Bridge High School in a relieving role.
Ms Grey‘s background is in teaching music and she has experience at schools all over the Hunter region and also as a HSC marker.
While she is getting used to her surrounds this isn’t her first brush with Singleton High School as she has been to town to mark the year 12 HSC music performances before.
Ms Grey believes that teachers need to engage children through different teaching methods.
“Modern teaching is about the four C’s: creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking, this combined with a solid base in literacy and numeracy will future proof the students,” she said.
“In the past it might have been possible to leave high school and straightway get a high paying job but that’s becoming more challenging without a good education.”
Ms Grey said that her role is to develop not just the students but the staff as well and she would endeavour to celebrate excellence.
She also wants to tap into the community.
“With a student population of about 1250 that’s a huge amount of people in the community who have an interest in the school whether they’re uncles, aunts or family friends,” she said.
