And, that’s exactly how the first grade grand final panned out at Howe Park on Saturday.
But, unlike the previous two encounters where Creeks lifted the trophy, it was Glendon who prevailed by 21 runs in an absorbing encounter.
In near-perfect conditions, the pre-match underdogs won the toss and opted to bat.
A solid 20-run stand settled Glendon’s nerves, despite opener Greg Thrift departing for 18.
His partner Joey Butler (16) and Daniel Higgins (28) pushed the side past 50.
Youngster Alex Thrift and captain Anthony Bailey then played match-winning hands.
The pair put on 107 for the fourth wicket, with Thrift making 62 – including four sixes – and Bailey contributing 41.
Regardless of the strong start, after being 3-174, Glendon’s innings fell away.
Nick Hogan (16) and Mal Hillier (11) chipped in with late runs, allowing the team to compile 9-214.
Chad Solman was instrumental in the tight finish, snaring 3-20 – and the scalps of Pat Dennis (0), Hogan and Cael Smith (4) – from six overs.
Mark Unicomb also secured 3-27.
With a third title in their sights, Creeks began impressively.
Even though Chris Unicomb (4) was removed cheaply, Myles Cook (43), Graham Unicomb (12), Solman (12) and Bayden Mulholland (21) all got starts.
At 5-176, and just 39 required for victory, the side appeared on target to capture a trifecta of successive crowns with Warren Gillespie and captain Steve Unicomb in control.
However, Gillespie was run out for 42 and Unicomb (32) followed him to the pavilion two runs later.
The fixture then swung Glendon’s way, who cleaned up the tail in quick fashion.
Hogan and Aaron Brennan were the destroyers with the ball, picking up 3-22 and 3-40 respectively as Creeks succumbed for 193.
Smith backed up with 2-22.
In second grade, Valley clipped the wings of newcomers Muswellbrook RSL at Cook Park 3.
Valley posted a formidable 224 and then dismissed their rivals for 152.
Glendon reaped the spoils in third grade with a seven-wicket triumph over Valley at Cook Park 4.
