To make this happen they need some crafty people to lend a hand and make ‘A blanket for Cancer’.
They are inviting groups or individuals to crochet, knit or sew a blanket to be displayed on the steps of the Singleton Council Chambers on Saturday, October 10.
After this they will then be donated to the Mater Hospice, Ronald McDonald House Newcastle and the Palliative Care room at Singleton Hospital.
Mrs Holz and Mrs Yates have gathered a team of family and friends to participate in the Relay from its inception – they have never missed one.
So this year they wanted to do something memorable to mark this milestone.
After personally experiencing how Ronald MacDonald House supports those in need, and seeing a picture of a sea of blankets adoring the steps of a building on the internet, Mr Holz was inspired.
“My daughter spent time at Ronald McDonald house as my grandson was born prematurely at 25 weeks.
“He only weighed 850 grams,” she explains.
“They were wonderful at Ronald McDonald house and I remember
there being a gift on the bed for Vicky and Tyson which included a lovely rug.”
She has been sending down blankets ever since, Mrs Holz says.
They do ask that people attach a label of the group or individual who is making the donation to each rug.
On the day they can be delivered to council from 11am until 3pm or can be collected beforehand.
