Australian Netflix customers have been been hit by an error in the streaming giant's billing system over the weekend which saw some customers charged up to 11 times in one day.
Angry Netflix customers vented their frustration on Twitter after being charged multiple times, with several users complaining their accounts had been sent into the red by the error.
Sydney resident David said his account had been charged 11 times on Sunday before going into redraw.
"Please fix your billing issues," he tweeted.
The billing issue appears to have hit customers hard in the entire region, with several customers in New Zealand also complaining about being overcharged.
"Netflix just charged me my monthly fee of $12.99 FOUR TIMES IN ONE DAY," one New Zealand customer tweeted.
"And they're trying to charge me again but it won't let them because they've taken all the f***ing money out of my account."
One other user said they were a student and couldn't afford to be charged twice.
A Netflix spokesman told Fairfax a small percentage of customers had been billed multiple times but no money had been taken from their accounts and the issued had been resolved.
"While no extra money was withdrawn from users' accounts, it may take several days for the authorisations to drop from users' bank accounts," Neflix said in a statement.
"Members may contact Netflix customer service if they have additional issues. We regret any inconvenience related to the problem."
Netflix has been enormously successful since its local launch in March this year, with a new survey indicating 30 per cent of Foxtel's customers were considering ditching the service in favour of streaming rivals Netflix, Presto or Stan, which is part owned by Fairfax Media.
@NetflixANZ Ive been charged almost $100 by Netflix in "monthly instalments" in last 24 hours - this is absurd - please explain and rectify.— Billy McLean (@billymclean5)

If you use Netflix Australia you might want to look over your bank statement. Being charged four times in a month seems excessive, no?— N (@nick_marland)
