Members of the Upper Hunter Radio Off-Road Club Ravensworth (UHROC) meet every second Saturday to control cars scaled one fifth of a real vehicle around a 300m track located on the New England Highway, Ravensworth, just 15 minutes north of Singleton (next to the motorbike track).
Between four to 10 vehicles fly around the challenging off road track that has plenty of jumps and turns, depending on the race type.
The vehicles range from 2WD buggies and trucks to 4WD buggies and trucks.
Normally they hold three heats before the final series; they start bright and early at 9am and finish later in the afternoon. Each race takes up to 10 minutes.
“I hear the vehicles whizzing around the neighbourhood and think they really enjoy what we do driving their cars on our track,” publicity officer Amanda Herbert said.
The association has been up and running for five years now and is always looking for new members; currently they have about 16 who take part in the fun, creating a family atmosphere.
The group boasts canteen facilities and toilets available for use during race days.
If you’re interested in finding out more about the group visit their website www.UHROC.com.au or Facebook page.
Their next meet is July 12, part of the Daniel Pit Stop Winter Series.
