WITH the Hunter trial of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) well underway, the Minister for Disability Services and Ageing John Ajaka spent Tuesday and Wednesday visiting potential providers in the region.

On Wednesday he travelled to Singleton and paid a visit to two disability service providers, Witmore Enterprises and Samaritans.
The NDIS is a generational reform that will deliver a national system of support focused on the individual needs and choices of people with disability.
It will hopefully provide the support they need to live life their way, achieve their goals and participate in social and economic life.
The Singleton Argus caught up with the minister at his first port of call, Witmore Enterprises, where the general manager, Stephen Wellard, showed him around while his hard working employees produced survey pegs.
Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen and Witmore president David Williams accompanied the minster on his tour of the facility.
Mr Ajaka says he has an important role to play in the role out of the scheme.
“It’s not just about me providing them with information about the NDIS; to make it successful we need to get feedback from the providers,” he says.
“It is also great to see first-hand the wonderful services they provide.”
He said it is important the government, service providers and the community work together to ensure a smooth transition from the old arrangements to the new system.
