A horse enthusiast, Ms Scott is proud of the equine industry located in her electorate, which includes Darley’s racing stables Osborne Park at Agnes Banks.
She described the stallion parade as being spectacular.
As land use conflict is currently a major issue facing the equine industry in the region due to the expansion of mining operations, Ms Scott said it was extremely important to ensure the country’s prime agricultural lands were protected along with the industries those lands support.
“Mining is a very important export industry and coal provides this country’s base load energy supply and we have to ensure we maintain a reliable and affordable source of energy for our community,” she said.
Ms Scott wants to see mining take place where it won’t adversely impact on key international industries.
She also spoke about the need for our economy to transition to a new high tech future where exports such as biotechnology would provide the jobs of the future.
