The 40-year-old recently secured third place in the MCU (barebow compound) division of the IBO Archery World Championships in New York State.
Hatch led after the opening day but eventually succumbed to a couple of American rivals over the final stages.
He managed 421/500, nine and 19 shots behind his adversaries.
“I knew it would be difficult, so I just tried my hardest,” Hatch admitted.
“I was still well-placed in second on day two but I dropped the ball.
“The other guys shot consistently – that was the key.
“They slowly slipped away from me.”
The former junior world champion said the result was a “catch-22” situation for him.
“I’m disappointed I didn’t finish first,” he told The Argus.
“But, at the same time, you can’t complain – third is great.
“Especially, when you’re up against the best in the world.
“This tournament boasted about 1600 competitors.”
Hatch is eagerly awaiting next year’s event, which will also take place in the United States.
“I’m keen to return and improve on my third,” he said.
“It’s a good feeling to represent Australia.
“I just need sponsorship now to help alleviate the costs; it’s not cheap.
“But, it’s nice to know – after having 24 years off – I’m still in the world class.
“The competitive bug’s bitten again.
“My next big tournament is the IFAA World Championships at Wagga Wagga in September.
“And, I’m aiming for the top spot.”
Meanwhile, the Singleton Archery Club will host the 3D branch titles in town this weekend.
