The semi-trailer is currently located approximately two to three kilometres to the north of the township on the New England Highway at a Truck Stop, and the contents of container included a mixed load of building materials and 27 x 200 litre drums of sulphuric acid.
It has stopped leaking but remains in the middle of the rest stop behind a barrier.
Authorities have requested RMS to close the stop and provide the appropriate signage to do so.
The EPA has also been informed and the operation will continue Tuesday morning at 9am.
Singleton NSW Fire and Rescue crew and Darlington RFS were called to the location at about 4pm, and not long after this HAZMAT teams were required.
