To be held from March 31 to April 10 the event is being staged by Around Hermitage Wine & Food Trail.
The festival coincides with the 50th anniversary of the revival of both the Australian wine and the Australian film industries and the start of the Australian food revolution.
1966 heralded the start of a renaissance in Australian wine, locally it was the year the famous Lakes Folly, Australia’s first boutique winery had its first vintage.
50 years on and gone are the days of Chateau Chunder from Down Under, Australia and most importantly the Hunter Valley is now producing some of the world’s best wines.
1966 Australia’s first Wine & Food magazines, Epicurean & Australian Gourmet, were launched. Australian food moved on from just meat pies.
Largely influenced by immigration from Europe in the 60’s and 70’s and more recently from Asia, Australian food is taking its rightful place on the world culinary stage.
1966 saw the revival of the Australian Film Industry with the making of classic films like “They’re a Weird Mob” and sparked the production of world renowned films.
The Hermitage Road event enables visitors to enjoy the ambiance of the vineyards watching some of your favourite Australian films matched with locally made wines and food from local providores.
A range of films from the decades will be shown, from the classic They’re a Weird Mob, to the iconic The Castle as well as the blockbusters Crocodile Dundee, Muriel’s Wedding, The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Red Dog. Screenings will take place in the vineyards and at some locations in the winery or cellar door.
The gourmet food offering will be inspired by the character of the film, classic and modern Australian with a twist.
All the wines served are from local producers who are inviting you into their backyard albeit quite a big one with a vineyard.
