And, for that effort, the experienced marksman walked away from the recent Australia Veteran Games at Wagga Wagga with not one, but two, gold medals.
Contesting the 61-65 years age division, Smith brushed aside 120 competitors to successfully defend his crown in the double barrel with a phenomenal score of 230/231.
He also garnered a special patch to put on his jacket, recognising his feat of 200 consecutive “hits”.
“I was thrilled with my result in 2015,” he said.
“But, I went better this time against harder competition.
“I actually think it brought out the best in me.”
Smith also battled the elements, which could have easily taken its toll on the expert.
“The conditions were extremely hot,” he said.
“The organisers brought out Eskies full of ice and water to keep us all cool.”
Not content with just one victory, Smith backed up his performance in the Champion of Champions 61-65 years section.
“From 75 targets, I managed to register 124/125,” he told The Argus.
“I must admit, I was very happy with my weekend.”
