Now one thing we should all be hoping to see is some funding for infrastructure.
With interest rates at record lows it about time governments at all levels started to invest in our communities.
We all know how the big infrastructure projects can improve our lives and lift productivity.
Just look at the Hunter Expressway what a difference that road has made to all our lives. Remember the days of trying to get to Newcastle in peak hour getting through Lochinvar with its long school zone.
That’s what good planning and building worthwhile infrastructure projects can achieve.
So what’s on our wish list – a new hospital for Maitland or a total upgrade of the existing facility, more passenger trains between Singleton and Newcastle, the upgrade of the New England and Golden Highway intersection, a Singleton bypass, new radiography and pathology department at our hospital and funding for the repairs of the bridge on Gresford Road.
How’s that for a start no doubt there are a few more on your list.
We need these facilities, they will improve our lives and our community and just as importantly given the downturn in the mining industry these projects may well boost our local economy and provide employment opportunities.
Singleton Council has been busy with upgrades to our main street, gym and swim, Ryan Avenue and the waste depot.
Now it would be great to see council start work on the former Sutton Ford site they purchased in 2013.
The main building on the corner of John and Elizabeth streets is becoming an eyesore likewise the block opposite. We understand it takes time to develop plans, find funding and gain approval but our town needs the boost that can come from these projects.
Hopefully local companies can be involved in the redevelopment of the two sites and our main street will look more vibrant and attractive at that location.
Council has announced it did not accept any of the tenders for the upgrade of the saleyards and we now project manager the works themselves.Once again this decision may result in more opportunities for local businesses.
