Mr Johnsen said that following a meeting between himself, Minister Speakman, and representatives from Singleton Council, the Council would soon have the ability to remove the trees in Burdekin Park, thereby removing the colony.
“I organised a meeting for council with the Minister last Thursday, and I am pleased that the Office of Environment & Heritage has today issued a license to Singleton Council to undertake works to remove trees and lop branches from retained trees to ensure public safety in the park,” Mr Johnsen said.
“Burdekin Park was a local park that had become completely un-usable by the public, with one media outlet rightly describing the Park as a ‘horror movie scene’, and our local Singleton Community was completely fed-up with that situation.”
“Having worked with the local council and community for such a long time on this, I know that there will be genuine relief that the NSW Government has delivered for the residents of Singleton.”
“This is a great win for the Singleton community, as well as the broader community in NSW, and it shows that practical, commonsense solutions are possible when it comes to environmental policy.”
