Compassion Australia has implemented their “Water of Life” fundraiser, which enables Australians to provide clean water for thousands of families in poverty stricken nations around the world.
Geography students at Australian Christian College have joined the cause, recently staging a “Jeans for Clean Water” fundraiser in order to provide safe water systems for children.
College high school geography teacher Mrs Makayla Tydeman says her students worked hard to raise $850 for the project.
“For every amount of $79 we raised, we are able to provide a safe water system that provides clean water for a family,” she says.
The students presented their cheque for $850 to Mr David Harrison of Compassion Australia at their combined primary and secondary school assembly.
Mr Harrison told staff and students that for a child in poverty the choice is not just between safe and unsafe water, it is between waterborne disease or dehydration.
“These funds will provide safe water for ten families,” Mr Harrison says.
The college has a strong focus on missions and Mrs Tydeman says the students are to be commended on their efforts to assist less fortunate families in gaining access to clean drinking water.
