THERE is no better time than now to celebrate milk.
With the current controversy over the dairy industry – in which Victorian and Tasmanian farmers faced ruin after processors Murray Goulburn and Fonterra recently slashed milk prices within a week of each other – it’s important to celebrate the dairy beverage and the farmers that make drinking it possible.
June 1 is World Milk Day, which was started in 2001 by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations. It’s a day to celebrate the Aussie farmers who work hard to produce this delicious and nutritious beverage.
For Australian dairy farmers, producing and delivering premium milk is a matter of pride. Our farmers work hard seven days a week, all year, to create the great tasting and wholesome milk that most Aussies consume on a daily basis.
This World Milk Day, take the time to thank the farmers that make milk possible by posting a selfie with a glass of milk or a carton using the hashtag #WMDHunter or send your selfies to online.media@theherald.com.au.
What’s your favourite way of consuming milk? Let us know in the poll below.
