Defending champions Adelaide are understood to have offered the 27-year-old a one-year deal as an injury replacement for Jordan Elsey.
Elsey, 22, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Adelaide’s 3-0 win over Kuala Lumpur FC in Malaysia on August 30.
Released by the Jets at the end of the 2014-15 season, Regan has spent the past 10 months in Malaysia at second division club Negeri Sembilan.
Regan is captain of the Janga’s who sit in fourth spot and are set to miss promotion.
Negeri Sembilan are coached by Novocastrian Gary Phillips. Andrew Nabbout was a teammate until signing with the Jets in July.
Contracts in Malaysia are comparable to the A-League but operate under a far more favourable tax system for players.
Regan is understood to have interest from other Malaysia clubs.
His wife Jess has returned to Newcastle and is due to give birth to their first child in November.
Regan’s last game in Malaysia is on October 21.
A Dudley-Redhead junior, Regan came through the Jets youth system and made his A-League debut on October 16, 2010. He made 68 appearances and was installed as captain in February 2015 after then coach Phil Stubbins sacked five seniors players, including regular skipper Kew Jaliens.
