For this reason local historian Roy Palmer, along with many others within the Singleton community believes the heritage site should be properly preserved.
Dating back to 1875 the rectory home has played an important role in hosting the bishop as well as acting as a chain of accommodation for the Parish.
Today, over a century later the site is in need of restoration, starting with the renewal of the roof.
Unfortunately this type of heritage restoration comes at a costly price.
Currently the roof is made up of unwired and unglazed tiles, meaning they are susceptible to water absorption and in the case of heavy rain can easily slide off the roof.
The feeble tiles also mean that water easily leaks inside the building and this has caused parts of the internal timber structures to rot.
Under council and heritage approval, a portion of the building’s roof has been redone with stronger replica tiles, as well as having the guttering replaced and insulation installed.
But with less than half the roof fixed, the Parish is hoping the community can get behind the project and support them in completing the task at hand.
“This is a beautiful building and a one of a kind for the Singleton community,” Arch Deacon Charlie Murry says.
“It has great historical importance and is a heritage building, but it’s also a community property and a place for the public.
“We would ideally like to restore the whole roof so it is in good shape for the next three to four decades.”
The current portion of the restoration has cost around $40,000.
The home forms part of the All Saints’ precinct that includes the Anglican Church which was opened and consecrated on April 16, 1913, at a cost of 24,450 pounds.
Leading church benefactor was Albert Augustus Dangar born at Whittingham in 1840.
