Singleton Council has commenced works to restore the playing field at Alroy Oval following three separate incidents of vandalism in the space of a week.
The incidents come as Council is preparing a draft Master Plan for the oval, which will include consideration for a fence of the playing field.
In the meantime, Council staff have completed an inspection of the surface with a view to restorating the playing surface, pending the drying of the grassed areas as a result of this week’s rain.
Anthony Egan, Council’s Director Corporate and Community, said it was difficult to believe there were those in our community who could be so destructive to a community facility.
“The damage caused to the space is significant and we are eager to commence restoration work as soon as possible to ensure the space can go back to being used by our local sporting clubs and families,” he said.
“Council is aware there have been suggestions in the community about the need for a fence to try to alleviate these kinds of incidents and is currently working with consultants to draft a Master Plan for Alroy Park, which will incorporate fencing of the playing field area.
“The community will have the opportunity to have input into the draft Master Plan as it progresses.”
