They have reached the halfway point when it comes to their goal of airconditioning the well-used recreational facility.
Thanks to a combination of corporate sponsorship, various raffles, a pie drive and “a huge” Bunnings barbecue the club’s dedicated staff has amassed $15 000.
It’s been a hard slog for manager, Dave Andrews, and his loyal employee, Vera Katris, who has been instrumental in the effort.
However, it will all be worth it as the many groups who use the facility really felt the heat over the summer.
“Especially the gym users and the young children coming to Kidzcare,” Dave says.
“One bloke came up to me back in November after a work out and said see you in March.”
PCYC regional general manager for the Hunter, Nicole Dunn, says she is pleased with how much money has been raised in a five month period.
“It’s pretty impressive and it shows the community supports the cause,” she says.
And, this is what Nicole will be telling the organisations property general manager when she meets with him next week.
She says hopefully he will also be impressed and contribute some funds. But in the interim Dave says they still have another $15 000 to go and the determined manager has already organised another fundraiser.
“We are hosting a comedy night and my nephew, Ethan Andrews, will be performing,” he explains.
The talented young comedian first dabbled in stand-up comedy in 2013, and now works professionally.
He was recently awarded a $10 000 scholarship under a major NSW Government initiative to develop emerging artistic talent which will culminate in the performance of a self-produced one man show at the 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival – and an eight-day regional NSW tour.
But it won’t just be Ethan taking to the stage, he is bringing a group of talented comedians with him, including MC Mitch Garling. Mitch is a regular at the world famous Comedy Store in Sydney and was named best emerging comedian of 2017 by the Sydney Comedy Festival.
The big gig is scheduled for Saturday, July 1 and is set to take place at Club Singleton. Doors will open at 7pm for the show at 7.30pm and you can get tickets from the Singleton PCYC or at the door on the night..
Tickets for dinner and the show are $25, or just $10 for the show. For more information give Dave a call on 65721653.
