THE Hunter’s entrepreneurship facilitator is urging young Upper Hunter residents who are unemployed or stuck in their career choice to consider starting a business as a career option.

As part of her role, Cheryl Royle has organised for up to 25 people aged 18 to 24 to attend a series of four, half-day free workshops in August.
She and local career development expert Lauren Maxwell will run the workshops.
“Some young people are better suited to self-employment but often don’t think that it is an option for them,” Ms Royle said.
“The workshops will help young people decide if they have what it takes to start their own business, explain what’s involved and show them the help that is available.
“If a young person has an idea, a passion or a hobby they may be able to turn that into their own business.
“We are not only dealing with the issue of high youth unemployment in our region but also underemployment and a business can be a solution to both issues.”
Ms Royle is also hosting a series of free, one hour “From unemployed to self-employed” information sessions in Muswellbrook, Scone and Singleton in late July and August.
She is one of only three entrepreneurship facilitators in Australia.
The federal government established the facilitators in regions where there is high youth unemployment and low uptake of self-employment.
She has extensive experience as a facilitator working with young people.
She is managing director of the business capability firm, The Finer Line, and co-founder of Lone Rangers, a new support network for sole business operators.
“My role is to support young people but I will work with anyone in the region who requires assistance or support, and will connect with schools and other parts of the community to foster a culture of and a greater acceptance of entrepreneurship,” Ms Royle said.
