It is an opportunity to recognise the tangible contributions made by Men’s Shed members to their communities.
And, this year the Australian Men’s Shed Association (ASMA) celebrates ten years of operation so there is plenty to celebrate.
In doing so our new-look local committee thought it would be a good time to introduce themselves to the general public.
Stepping up to the helm is president, Paul Meynell, and his executive consists of: vice-president Colin Cox, secretary Phillip Boyce, and treasurer Bruce Griffiths.
Supported by committee members: Brian Leighton, Richard Conley, Bob Moore, Gerry Winter, David Gray and John Baker.
The Singleton Men’s Shed was established in 2010 with the initial idea put forward by Jack Francis.
From here it took a lot of planning and hard work but it was all worth it.
In 2015 former Singleton resident and Governor General, Sir Peter Cosgrove, officially opened an expansive new shed.
Since then they have created a friendly and welcoming atmosphere where a diverse range of men gather to share their skills and more importantly, socialise.
There are currently around 70 financial members with up to 30 turning up when the doors are open.
Mr Meynell says their goal is just to keep things ticking along.
“We want to keep the shed safe to ensure the health and well-being of our members,” he says.
They will also continue to assist community groups, organisations, and individuals.
Mr Boyce says they have just finished making suicide prevention boxes for an organisation called Homeless No More.
“We recently restored some chairs at Mount Olive hall and we will be manning the barbecue at the upcoming Endevour Games.”
These are just a few examples and over the years they have contributed to many local projects, including Singleton Neighbourhood Centre’s Open Door Project.
If you would like to get involved, they are always looking for new members so head on down between 10am-1pm from Tuesday to Saturday.
