Ms Hyam takes the reins following the expiration of the term and retirement of George Souris, who had chaired the board since 2014. She said she was looking forward to the role. “I was involved in the reformation of the present association two-and-a-half years ago,” she said. “The Hunter Valley is the most visited wine region in Australia and economically significant for the state.
“We aim to capitalise on its potential and as Australia’s oldest wine region – and one of its most picturesque – its potential is enormous. “It is my vision to make it the state’s leading tourism destination outside Sydney.”
Mr Souris said it had been a pleasure to serve the Hunter Valley. “The HVWTA is firmly positioned as the peak representative body for Hunter Wine Country’s wine and tourism industries,” he said.
