On the one hand it can be argued that politicians who think big are doomed to political failure or on the other hand Australians are voting less and less for the major parties because they don't have leaders with big ideas.
Well who knows the precise answer to that question but one thing is for sure we are bereft of political leaders – visionaries.
Even if they aren't the leaders of a political party we seem very short on ideas and how to implement them.
Now Mr Turnbull talks about turning Australia into a country full of innovators and having cutting edge industries wowing the world with our products.
Great except every other leading industrial country, say for example Germany, is embracing renewable energy and sadly we aren't.
So that means our products have to compete with those coming from a country where on one day this year 87 per cent of their power came from renewables.
We need to develop cutting edge renewables we need to be leading the world in renewables.
Hey we invented one of the worlds first self propelled grain harvesters so there is no doubt we can do this.
What has this to do with Singleton ? Well we are also in need of some wise political leadership.
We need to protect our environment,we need to protect our heritage and our villages and we need sustainable long term jobs.
To obtain this type of balance we need good leadership and planning none of which we have had for sometime.
Successive state governments have been lazy and uncaring about our problems and our aspirations.
They have left us to battle corruption think Doyles Creek Mine near Jerrys Plains and now the downturn in the mining industry.
Our community which is generally a wonderful cohesive mob has been fighting about whether its mines or villages or farming that should exist at the expense of the other parties.
That’s simply not good enough so come on you politicians start talking and listening to our community and lets build, together a better Singleton.
