Extending special invitations to past students, past staff, past teachers and past families, the school anticipates big plans for the celebration and hopes to reunite and reflect on how far the school has come in the forty years since its establishment.
Singleton Heights Public School officially opened its gates on October 7, 1979, with a total of five classes (one for every year except year six).
In 1979 Member for the Upper Hunter Col Fisher and Councillor Neil McNamara were both present on the day to declare the school officially open.
"Only eight years ago, cattle grazed these grounds" said Cr Neil McNamara at the opening. At this point in time, the population of Singleton Heights sat at 2100, with just over 510 houses within the area.
Today the school proudly educates 550 students, has 24 classes and 65 staff (including teachers, aids, mentors, administration).
Plans for the birthday bash so far include a commemorative whole-school art exhibition, performances by the school band and town band and performances by local dance studios for the special day.
Novelty stalls, markets, jumping castles, multicultural food trucks, show bags and more will also be available on the day.
The school P&C are seeking SHPS memorabilia to be displayed on the day such as clothing (old uniforms, sports uniforms, special uniforms from previous years), book works or awards. If you have a special piece of SHPS history and would like to display it on the day, please contact the school on 6573 1363.
The school P&C are also seeking raffle prizes and sponsors.
"It's a milestone for the school and we really hope the community come together to celebrate how far the school and the heights in general as come since it first opened" says Angela Penton, the school's anniversary organiser.
