However, the social distancing guidelines have proved difficult to meet, with some clubs making the decision to blow the full time whistle early on the entire winter season.
Being "the hardest but most important decision to make", Greta Branxton Football Club president of twelve years, Luke Thrift, said the committee factored in the requirements and made a realistic judgement to "not compete at any level this season."
"While we agree most of the restrictions need to be in place, we don't think we could achieve this safely and offer a season of substance that would be enjoyable to everyone.
"We would only be putting our players at risk...the risks don't outweigh the benefits in our opinion."
Factoring in other clubs as well, Thrift said they took into account not everyone would take the restrictions seriously, which could cause someone to get sick.
The committee were heavy hearted but also concerned about the response they were going to receive against their decision.
To their surprise, not one single negative comment was made with member Jess Osborne saying she was "glad they didn't have the season go ahead"
"It would have ruined our atmosphere as you couldn't support your team," she said.
"Some of the boys would come down and support the previous team, then after the games, everyone would go have a beer together.
"I do miss being part of a team, life's a bit more quiet, but it would have been so weird."
Sights are being set for the new year following last week's decision to cancel the summer 6s competition.
"Nothing has changed really and it would have contradicted our prior decision, plus, this was a social comp and all the social parts were not allowed," said Thrift.
"We've set our annual general meeting for October 19th, and are still working on projects around the grounds ready for next year."
