Local teams will play a 3v3 basketball competition at 11am at the Singleton Heights Sport Centre before the main game at 2pm pits Singleton’s current B-ball players, the Scorchers, against former players the Legends on a full court.
“The legends may be a bit older but they have great experience and have a massive height advantage with four or five guys at least six foot 10 inches,” organiser Mark Cox said.
“These guys were playing for Singleton Supersonics in the 90s in the then state league when basketball was big.”
The coaches in charge of the both sides are fierce rivals Peter Radmacher (Legends) and Justin Hollis (Scorchers) who are both confident of success.
“One of our players is in the Guinness book of Records (Lewis Young) for most points in a professional game in Scotland (108 points), it’ll be entertaining that’s for sure,” Mr Radmacher said.
Current MVP for Maitland in the Waratah League will also play for legends side adding some youthful exuberance to the side.
Bunnings Warehouse is sponsoring a three pointer shootout at half time of the main game with great prizes up for grabs.
Families are encouraged to come down and kids will get to jump on a jumping castle and a sausage sizzle will be held during the day.
While it’s an invitational game the Scorchers are still going through a selection trial process to find the best 10. The trials start at 8pm on September 2 at the Height's Sport Centre.
“It should be a close game,” Mr Cox said.
Sponsoring the day of basketball are Getaway Caravan Company Hire and Singleton Sound Solutions.
