Emma Cheetham
Singleton High School’s Emma Cheetham says she enjoyed all her classes and this has certainly paid off for the Year 12 graduate.
After learning she earned the coveted status of 2017 HSC All-round achiever on Thursday, today Emma received an outstanding ATAR of 98.7.
All-round Achievers are students who attained a result in the highest band possible (Band 6 or Band E4) for 10 or more units of courses in their current pattern of study.
Her mother says she has put in a lot of hard work and it has paid off.
However, her cohort “are a lovely group” who were very supportive of each other, she explains.
Emma told The Argus she is relieved and is considering studying Biomedical Science at Newcastle University.
“But I am not quite sure yet,” she explains.
Emma says she just set her mind to achieving the best result possible.
Starting with Biology and Hospitality In Year 11 when she took part in the school’s accelerated learning program.
She achieved Band 6’s for both subjects.
And, this year for Chemistry and Mathematics, along with the equivalent E4 mark in Mathematics Extension 1 and English Extension 1.
Congratulations Emma!
Bridget Brosi
After creating her magnificent major work, Bridget Brosi has ranked 10th in the state for the HSC subject Textiles and Design, claiming the title of Top Achiever.
The enthusiastic and hardworking student managed to score a Band 6 in Textiles, as well as Senior Science, two Band 5s for Maths and English, and one Band 4, giving her an ATAR score of 88.45.
Making Bridget’s HSC success all the more special is the fact that she studied Textiles and Design by correspondence as well as managing two part-time jobs throughout the year.
Excited, and no doubt relieved, to receive such fantastic results, Bridget hopes to spend 2018 working locally while also studying for a Certificate of Education Support at TAFE.
Megan Purkiss
Singleton local Megan Purkiss is certainly reaping the rewards of more than 12 months of hard work, dedication and organisation, following the release of her HSC results.
The St Francis Xavier's College student excelled in each of her subjects, and she has the mark to prove it, having received a phenomenal ATAR of 98.3.
On top of her incredible ATAR, she was named Dux of 2017 and also scored herself the title of Distinguished Achiever, after receiving a mark of 90 or above in biology, advanced English, mathematics and studies of religion II.
The lively teen also studied extension maths and chemistry.
With the HSC done and dusted, Megan is hoping to study Biomedical Science at the University of Newcastle in 2018, before continuing on to study either Medicine or Dentistry.
The most refreshing aspect of Megan’s HSC success is the fact that she actually enjoyed her studies, and balanced her workload with a healthy social life – a fantastic example for future students heading into their senior years.
