There was plenty of action on the cricket pitch during the second grade semi-finals on Saturday. Valley (9/151) pulled off a thrilling win in the major semi-final against Creeks (10/150). The game went down to the wire, and it was Will Nieuwenhuise batting at number six who saved the day – scoring 73 not out.
In the minor-semi, JPC (3/76) overcame Denman (10/71). After some fine bowling by Nathan Kearney (3/13) and spinner Sam Harrison (2/14), things were looking good for JPC.
However, an early batting collapse saw them lose three consecutive wickets with no runs scored. So it took a steadying partnership between Kye Dann (38no) and Gregg Dann (32no) to secure the win.
In the wash-up Valley will advance straight through to the grand-final while Creeks live to fight another day and are up against JPC this Saturday.
Meanwhile in first grade, the dominant minor premiers, Valley, are straight through to the season decider scheduled for March 24.
Their opponents will be decided in the preliminary final this Saturday when the Hybrids (PCH/Glendon) take on Creeks. In thirds, Denman have secured a spot in the GF after beating JPC on Saturday, and securing the minor premiership.
Their opponents will be the winner of this weekend’s preliminary final between Creeks and Valley at Cook 5.
