The Central Bar and Kitchen is the set location for a heartfelt local initiative next month.
The Ovarian Cancer Fundraiser, organised by Bec McLennan, has been planned to commemorate and remember local woman Angela Wood.
Angela sadly lost her life to Ovarian Cancer at the young age of 36 in 2017, exactly a year and a day after she was diagnosed.
Angela worked alongside Bec at Richies IGA in Singleton however moved to Nelsons Bay where she me her husband Matt, described by Bec as her 'happily ever after'. Angela and Matt were married in 2013, before she fell ill. She was a well-known local and mother to her boy, Riley Burgess and step mother to Ella, Chloe and Josh Wood.
"Since Ange passed, I have wanted to do something in honour of her to help raise and spread awareness for Ovarian Cancer," said Fundraiser Organiser Bec McLennan.
"I had aimed to have tried to do it last year but because of COVID it has had to be pushed back."
"Nevertheless, we have planned a big afternoon full of fun!" Bec continued.
The afternoon event is $80 per head and includes wine on arrival and delicious canapes by the Central Kitchen on Saturday March 27.
Local businesses have donated prizes to be raffled off, a live auction is set to take place and inquiries for live music are underway.
"We have received $3000 worth of raffle and auction items from Amanda Dennis who normally host her own bike ride fundraiser for Ovarian Cancer," Bec continued.
"However, due to COVID she has been unable to so has passed the items onto us thankfully!"
"I really just want to raise awareness for the disease," said Bec.
"It's actually really hard to diagnose Ovarian Cancer, the symptoms can often be mistaken for other issues like gluten intolerance or cramps."
Bec has set herself the goal of $5000 however would love to raise more.
"I'd just like to thank all of the local businesses who have donated to the initiative," she added.
